Brief Report on 2009 EisteddfodAnother successful Eisteddfod in 2009, both artistically and financially. The committee was encouraged by appreciative parents and teachers telling us that the Eisteddfod was a friendly helpful festival with a high standard of performance, and our thanks go to them for their loyalty and support.
Record entries in the Dance Section of more than 1,000 made it necessary to extend our usual five days of dance classes to six, and the experienced adjudicator made it an exciting competition.
Adjudicators in the three music sections of Vocal, Piano and Instrumental were helpful and instructive, resulting in the classes being entertaining for both competitors and audience. The continuing low number of entries was disappointing. We intend to increase our publicity for these sections and would be interested to hear ideas that would attract more entries.
The Speech & Drama Section ran for two full days. We look forward in 2010 to new ideas being included such as the engagement of a professional News Reader to assist the adjudicator and demonstrate their skills.
We had several new volunteers helping as door stewards and also in the Dance Section, plus great support and hard work from all the commiittee members. However, we still need more secretarial help. If you live in the area and would like to help in the preparation of the 2010 Eisteddfod, please contact the General Secretary.
